Today's entertaining online tool: Orbis, Stanford's Mapquest for the Roman Empire. It includes a nifty little function for estimating least-cost or least-time routes based on different modes of travel. No cities in Poland, alas, but some extrapolation is possible...

That's pretty cool. I've got to figure out a way to use this when I teach my sophomores about Roman civ.
