MC GANGS

Hi again.

Have anyone written anything on the various MC Gangs of the US, or other places?
I'd guess they would hold goods,guns,fuel & transport in a Post-Apoc. Environment.

General,

Good to see you on the forum again! It seems like it has been a long time.

MC Gangs. I do not recall any posts on this topic. They would have a short term advantage over anyone else in the weeks following TDM. IF they were away from the cities during TDM, they would have a coherent group, usually armed to the teeth, and willing to take whatever they wanted. After a month or so, I do not see them having any mobility advantages. Their cycles need gas and oil just like any other vehicle. The destruction of the US fuel backbone would shut down the availability of petroleum based products for the Hells Angles just like it would for every one else. I do not know if EMP would affect the bikes. Probably not.

The MC gangs would be an interesting campaign as both MilGov and CivGov would be anxious to curtail their activities. I could see a tie in with the US Mail thread as either or both governments would offer a "deal" to the MC gangs. Deliver the mail, we make sure you have gas. Get out of line, we step on you with both feet.

1ST Ed Twilight 2000 treated them like any other marauders. I can see them used as scouts or rapid response by any local powers and army. While most 1%ers are white, I don't see New America being a favorite patron(too restrictive of a society).

I think that OMGs have a couple things going for them in a SHTF scenario. First off, most of them are surprisingly well organized, some with nationwide profiles. They're also very mobile, and I don't just mean their wheels. A lot of those guys don't live in any one place for very long. They're used to moving around a lot. Lastly, any OMG worth its salt is going to be relatively well armed. A lot of OMGs partake in a little gun running in addition to their other extralegal activities (drug trafficking mostly, and often prostitution rings). They're going to have access to unregulated/illegal full auto firearms, cut down weapons, and silencers. OMGs also have contacts in other parts of the criminal realm. I don't think that fuel would be a major issue, at least in the short run. I expect a lot of these gangs would revert to banditry in order to keep themselves well gassed after civil disorder begins. That should keep them in the gasoline for a while, probably long after most of the rest of the country had ground to a halt. After that, I'm sure that a lot of OMGs would have people who could figure out how to convert their bike engines to burn alternative fuels. In a lot of ways, OMGs are a perfect marauder template.

IIRC there are multiple references in the CONUS modules and sourcebooks to OMGs as being at the cores of various armed groups. Those sorts of people have the benefit of not requiring much (or any) lead time in moving to methods involving extreme violence and brutality as civil order decays.

Absolutely. I think that a significant proportion of fuel tanker heists during the breakdown of civil order in the CONUS during the Twilight War would have been conducted by OMGs and similar groups with the benefits of strong leadership, strong esprit-de-corps and a bit of logistical forward-thinking.

Interesting concept ...fuel-tanker heists

Wikipedias list of Outlaw MC gangs

Something tells me I or someone should make a sourcebook of motorcycles old an new

That would be cool, I think I'd left a rough organization for the gangs under "the original 1%". One area that GDW needed to clear was the difference between road and offroad cycles, these needed different stats.

I think that you would see fuel tanker heists VERY quickly either on or in the immediate aftermath of TDM. Any group that has any kind of forward thinking beyond the instant need to protect themselves would see that fuel would become more valuable than gold. Especially in the northern states. IF you go with TDM , then those who survive in the northern states are just starting winter. And per V1.0, the winter after TDM was incredibly cold. Having several hundred gallons of kerosene, gasoline or diesel could keep your group alive until spring. Some where in May.

A large fuel cache was a traditional "pull" in T2K. one or more tankers would be quite a lure. Perhaps the chapter was ambushed later and killed or executed. This would allow other chapters of the same gang to be racing against the PC's.;)

Thank you General Pain,

Now I have to dig out my Yves Lavigne books on OMGs.

Here are a couple things that could help you in a campaign:

Outlaw MC Organization:
  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Road Captain
  • Sergeant-At-Arms
  • Member
  • Prospect
Other people in the club:
  • Most outlaw motorcycle clubs do not allow women to become full-patch members, but a Outlaw MC would have a contingent of women (wives and female partners) that would serve in support roles.

Headquarters:
  • Outlaw MCs would need a base of operations, could be a small town, a private compound or old military base.

Operations:
  • Outlaw MCs would support themselves primarily through drug dealing (moonshine, tobacco, as well illicit drugs), trafficking in stolen goods (stolen during raids on small towns and convoys), and extortion (over small towns and outposts).
  • Outlaw MCs would also fight over territory with other Outlaw MCs as well as Marauders, and Milgov/Civgov forces.

Character Generation:
  • Just like some of the characters in Sons of Anarchy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sons_of_Anarchy), you could have some former Vietnam Veterans in your club. (Jesse Ventura was full-patch member of the "Dago" chapter of the Mongols motorcycle club, in San Diego)
  • All Character would 5 or higher in Agility (Ground Vehicle, Motorcycle), Mechanic, and Small Arms (Pistol).
  • Character could also have secondary skills in Chemistry, Interrogation, Navigation, and Scrounging.

Campaign Ideas:
  • An Outlaw MC has been raid Milgov/Civgov convoys in the area, commanders of Milgov and Civgov forces, have a agree to put aside their differences and work together to end this threat.
  • A town that under the protection of an Outlaw MC, has been hit by Marauders, and the clubs must send a "message" to this group.

If you move outside of the OMCs, motorcycle "gangs" (clubs/associations) have a very interesting smattering of personnel. Oddly enough, you've got a very heavy leaning of tech industry people in these. You could have more than just traditional heists right after SHTF... some of these people not only installed security systems, but designed and implemented the entire networks behind them... and hell, may even have access to high level DoD systems due to their "day job!"

The local BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse check them out, awesome organization) chapter where I just moved away from had some very colourful characters. I worked with one of their members, he was had been a firefighter and police officer for 20 years and got his pension. He worked IT to pay for his hobby ranch with milking goats, horses, and a few exotic animals. His wife and kids were in the tech industry, several of the in-laws and even a grand-kid were part of the MC he was in. All were avid shooters, I'm positive some were military.

Think about that. You've got a police veteran with knowledge of emergency procedures both physical and electronic, as well as enough animal husbandry for subsistence. He has a literal clan (if small) who can be counted on for technical and agricultural support, and all capable of shooting--some with real combat experience. And that's just one member! "Everybody has a story," after all.

External to himself he's got a network of contacts quite well versed in instantaneous rapid reaction. Some of them were reformed criminals, others were just "geeks with bikes" looking to improve their self-image, an some were (allegedly) active criminals who could simply agree to a truce for the sake of BACA's mission.

They have constant meets for riding, shooting, organizational or even purely social reasons. In total the chapter had probably 50 Members and Associates.

Now, when SHTF, who do you think these people are going to call? It ain't AAA, that's for sure.

If you want an interesting group for this kind of thing, but are looking for something a little more "White Knight" than an out-and-out criminal gang... BACA could be just what you're looking for.
