I emailed Marc and he confirmed this. That was 2 years ago, so I don't know if that's true today, but basically I'd have ended up spending around $35 at DTR and downloading immediately, but I opted to send the $35 to FFN for all pdfs (and Challenge articles) a few days later. The only downside for me with the pdfs (and I'm guessing they are the same pdfs as on DTR) is the OCR was atrocious, but I really can't hold that against them - OCR is labor-intensive for very little tangible reward. |
So I looked again and it looks like things are still the same - DTR gives you immediate gratification, but FFN gives you more value.
V1 I didn't check the books side by side, but just counting the number of books, it looks like DTR gives you the same books as does FFN. However, for $5 less, you get all of the Challenge magazine articles (48) via FFN. http://www.rpgnow.com/product/81369/...0-%5BBUNDLE%5D http://farfuture.net/Contents%20CDRO...rsion%2010.pdf V2.2 14 books available via DTR, 18 from FFN - for $4 less. Plus you get the 63 Challenge articles if you get the CD from FFN. http://www.rpgnow.com/product/81450/...2-%5BBUNDLE%5D http://farfuture.net/Contents%20CDRO...rsion%2022.pdf Personally, I think the Challenge articles are worth the wait it takes to received the physical CD, to say nothing of the 4 books in 2.2, but at least you have an alternative if you prefer. |
thanks this settles my internal debate about buying the CDs through Far Future or pdfs through Drive Thru RPG.

I just wish FFN would hurry up and release the promised 2013 cd!

Small world...
Scott Holden the fill in editor at DriveThru RPG this week went to High School with me and we played DnD together. I remember killing his character with a young dragon when he fumbled his saving throw... |
