Oops the wheels of the European Project are beginning to fall apart.

Not to mention the rise of another anti-austerity party in Spain, Podemos (loosely translated as "We Can") that seems to be thinking alongside the Greeks and has also supposedly stated their intention to have Spain leave NATO...

They think that by having closer ties to Russia they can have create good economic ties there. Because that worked so well for France when they did it when they left NATO.

I think the Greeks have missed one important point though. France was at least able to help itself a little by exporting foodstuffs and electricity. The ties with Russia may have come to nothing but the sales of food & electricity helped put France into a better economic situation. Greece doesn't have that option.

I know that, you know that, they don't understand that. And Russia will eat them alive.

Just read Russia has said "no" to bailing Greece out.

That's hardly a surprise, the Russians can hardly bail themselves out right now with the one-two punch from the sanctions and the huge drop in oil prices (moreso due to the oil prices though IMHO).

Although I just read Cyprus has reached an agreement with Russia to lease some of it's bases to their naval and air forces.

Methinks if Greece ever leaves NATO, the Turks are going to be paying the Greeks a visit...

Greece will never leave NATO. There is too much to lose but I can see the entire leasing of airbases and naval ports. The main part is getting them to leave when there lease is up!

The Greeks and Russians have been sort of odd bedfellows though. I heard that if you walked the streets in Greece, you'd see the old hammer and sickle as wall graffiti everywhere and the only real difference was that the locals spoke Greek instead of Russian....well, that plus less radiation exposure.

And no cheap vodka...

They share the same religion but I don't think they have to many other things in common.

Sure they do.
The rotten socialist mentality. The inborn belief that someone else should pay the bill for their life.
The reason the Greeks are in economic trouble is that they are chronically lazy.
This is mirrored in the Russian mentality where cheating the authority is applauded.

Are you saying that the Greek idea of socialism is rotten, or that socialism as a mentality is rotten generally speaking? Because if you mean the latter, I'm inclined to engage you in a political debate, the kind of which we're not supposed to have on this forum.

I think that's what I had one long evening when I was off-duty in the dorms at Spangdahlem. Or was it vodka? Not sure. I just remember worshipping the porcelain throne, and not too much else...other than the Rocky Horror Picture Show, that is.

What's so different about Greek socialism compared to the rest of Europe?

How exactly are Greeks chronically lazy compared with who?

I work closely with a Greek-Australian who regularly travels to Greece and he's told me that Greece's biggest problem isn't laziness, it's that tax evasion is a cultural institution.

I visited Greece almost exactly two years ago and found the local people that I met warm, friendly, and hard-working. Let's not generalize or stereotype whole nationalities of people, or damn all of them for their leaderships' failings.

Anyway, Rainbow 6 and I had Greece ditching the EU, quitting NATO, and joining Moscow's Eurasian Union, all prior to 2025, for our T2030 project. So far, a lot of what we called a year ago has come or is coming to pass.

I have similar recollections of one drunken night on ouzo a few decades ago. Can't stand the stuff since then.
