This was mentioned in the timeline for Twl2013 that they scoffed at. Lot more is coming true lol.

I'm not an expert on Europe in RL 2021, but it seems to me that there's a hard barrier on how much pushback the EU can impose on Russia, and that hard barrier is the threat of Russian piped gas getting switched off.

Which is why there has been so much opposition to Nord Stream 2. You double not only the capacity of gas delivery, you double the capacity for this extortive behavior.
