There are also freeware and shareware programs around. Look for "convert picture to pencil" or "convert picture to sketch". These programs would have more flexibility for pictures where the border distinction is not as sharp as the example I used below.
I plan to use these "sketches" (generated from pics mostly taken from the
imfdb wiki) for my own equipment database.
