Scary thought. I just don't see the U.S. being in any position to do anything about a "surprise" PRC invasion of Taiwan.
Maybe, once we pull out of Afghanistan and Iraq, but that seems years away. Unless the Taiwanese put up one hell of a heroic fight (i.e. Battle of Britain, anyone?), we're just not going to be able to get there in the sort of numbers required to have much of a positive effect. Once the PRC gets a foothold on the island, it's pretty much over. I agree that the U.S. has no stomach for a war with China, on any scale.
