Harry Turtledove, the award-winning author of many alternate-history novels, wrote one a few years ago (the Days of Infamy duology) in which the
initial attack on PH was a full-on invasion, and not just a raid. It was very well researched and pretty plausible. The Japanese do, eventually, lose the war due to America's awesome industrial might. But it takes the US a lot longer to win it, and there's an enormous amount of grief for the unfortunate citizens of Hawaii prior to the US invasion to retake the islands.
