Correct. If the bullet travels faster than the speed of sound it creates a sonic boom (which is really a 'sonic crack' when it comes from a bullet). Although it's a pistol round (I recognise that this thread is about rifle rounds), that's the beauty of .45ACP - it's a heavy bullet and it's usually subsonic already so it's ideal for firing through a silencer.
I agree there are still many benefits to be had from firing supersonic rifle ammunition through a surpressor.
