You should have a look at "The Fist of God", a thriller novel by British author Frederick Forsyth, which is based on a similar scenario to what you've outlined. In a nutshell, Saddam has an operational super cannon and nuclear tipped shells which he plans to use against coalition troops - it may not be realistic but it's a damn good read.
