When I was in a signal battalion we had a section whose mission was to generate random call signs and coordinate the frequencies assigned to units within our division. The call signs were not nearly as exciting... "Charlie Golf Two Four Bravo" rather than "Raider 6". And this is on a secure network. They would put several (dozens) lists of them into a CEOI (Communications Equipment Operating Instructions) and notification of which set you should use was put out several times a day. If a CEOI was lost or captured (a big deal!) then they had additional, unique ones to distribute.

I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...
