The push happens automatically on Apple equipment (unless you turn it off). I am pretty sure that most people were unaware of that function. So I don't blame the celebs for that part.
They did fall for phishing techniques which puts the blame on them a bit, but while I respect the hackers for being somewhat creative, it really was not any an exploitation of a weakness in security at the apple or cloud level. Just a simple manipulation of human nature.
One caveat apple should have restricted the use of brute force attacks on the "Find my phone" function when it was first implemented (as that was considered a potential source of the photos early on), but that now seems unrelated to the leaks.
So what everyone should (re)learn from this is never enter your password on a page you were directed to via email or text.
