Man, after years (no - literally
years) of trying and failing I got M1 Tank Platoon II working under Windows 7. It's not flawless (cutscenes don't play, nor does the "War College" training film library), but I can play a game beginning to end without any major hiccups like crash to desktop or being stuck with no way out of a menu.
If you gents will pardon me I'm off to fight the opening battles of the Twilight War
