The previous link is now updated with approximately 950 NATO (or allied) airbases that had a military role I was able to discover. That therefore excludes thousands of civilian airports, although there are some included (that were joint military and civilian, hosted Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve units or had been SAC bomber or dispersal bases in the past).

I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for 12 hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory. Someday this war's gonna end...
