The original cover art for the V1 box set is composed of real persons from photos covering the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. Each person has been traced, shaded in, and re-sketched to with appropriate resizing.
One could do that I supposed and photoshop with the ability to "cut" out a person and paste them into another picture would simplify that a great deal.
