Whatever. France still has a fair number of these locomotives and rolling stocks kept in working order by the SNCF and by private association. The ones in wales are real. Italy as an impressive number mostly owned by the state and run by amateurs. Swiss has some too... I think Jester told me that you could find several in California... not to talk of Russia... Any country is concerned. It seems that sweden sold its but in the case of France most went to museums and private hands in the country. The only difference between then and now is who pays the bill.
I think that even if it was a wishful thiking, it exists somehow de facto. Although much more limited
By the way, what is said on wiki about early diesel is very true and many are still to be found as well.
