Default ny Kiwis on this board?

boogiedowndonovan 07-18-2008, 12:55 PM Any Kiwis (New Zealanders) on this board?

If so, or for anyone else for that matter, which RNZAF squadron(s) would have been upgraded to the F-16? IF the F-16 purchase had gone through, I am assuming they would replace the A-4 squadrons?

Also, I read somewhere that a battalion of the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment was stationed in Singapore until 1989? can anyone verify?

thanks

pmulcahy 07-18-2008, 04:11 PM I'm not a Kiwi, but I used a lot of it in the Army...

Anyway, I'm a bit confused...I thought the RZNAF was going to buy F/A-18s...

GOF 07-18-2008, 04:42 PM Were never going for F18 - too expensive

Had troops & Iroqois flight in Singapore until 1989

Had three combat squadrons, No2 & No75 flying Skyhawks, No14 flying MB339

Skyhawks to be replaced with F16 offered in sweet deal from USA for planes from cancelled order from Pakistan

otherwise Skyhawks would probably been replaced with more MB339

No2 Sdn was in Australia from 1991 to fly as enemy for RAN training

pmulcahy 07-18-2008, 06:18 PM So, are the NZs still getting the F-16s? Or did they lose them when the Pakistanis screwed us by pretending to be on our side? (I believe at least one F-16 order was reinstated.)

boogiedowndonovan 07-18-2008, 11:49 PM hey GOF, thanks for the info.

Paul, the RNZAF was going to get F-16's but that was cancelled by the Labor party. In fact, not only did the Labor party cancel the F-16 order, they also disbanded the A-4 and MB339 squadrons. The RNZAF now only has transport, helo, and maritime patrol (P-3) squadrons. Liberals....

ah well, in my T2K world, the RZNAF has F-16s.

GOF 07-20-2008, 07:20 AM Yeah their Prime Minister Helen Clarke doesn't like the military her government decided that the peace dividend meant no more wars needing Kiwi fighter pilots and New Zealand should be showing the world that their air force is a caring, sharing force for good - so no offensive stuff, even their P3 birds don't have the full weapons package IIRC

F16 deal got cancelled in like 2000 or 2001

The figured if they ever had a need for air cover then they could call on the RAAF... too bad if we're busy, those pretty little corvettes they got for the navy wont be much more than scrap if they get attacked from the air... guess the Kiwi Prime Moron didn't think of that

Targan 07-20-2008, 10:04 AM I'm a New Zealander too but all the questions posed at the start of the thread have already been answered. As an interesting aside I have an aunt who is the personal assistant to the Chief of the RNZAF.
