The advantage of a .408 CheyTac round is it's ballistic coefficient -- it's long, slim, and heavy. It retains a high velocity far longer than the .50 BMG; at 1500 meters, it's still supersonic, while the .50 BMG's velocity has fallen below the speed of sound. It also has less of a drop at range than the .50 BMG. It doesn't, however, have quite the raw knockdown power of the .50 BMG, except at very long ranges.
