I've got nearly as much experience myself and have to disagree with your disagreement. The projectile has already left the barrel before any significant amount of recoil effects the shooter,
provided they're actually holding it correctly. This could be modelled by requiring a minimum level of skill, or familiarity with a particular type (not model) of firearm to avoid first round recoil penalties.
As a somewhat more extreme example of the recoil issue, look at the three round burst of the G11. All three rounds have left the barrel before ANY recoil is passed onto the shooter.
