Bona nit!

In Bosnia and Kosovo I discovered (for my own surprise) my nearly total inability to take a decent and representative photograph of what I was living and seeing. If anybody could see right now my photographs of my deployments, for sure he or she would think that I enjoyed a fantastic vacation period in Dubrovnik and Thessaloniki (the two cities where I spent my free weekend in each deployment). Of course, great part of the time I was too busy to take any photographs. As a general rule it was not possible for me to take photos while on duty and, depending of the alarm level, I was not allowed to exit outside the base if I was not on duty... But when I had the chance to take one good photograph I discovered a kind of embarrassment that prevented me to do it. Then, my fantastic and self-explanatory projected photograph became a total different thing. Blurred photographs taken from the BMR (the spanish armored vehicle used in this kind of tasks) or from the Nissan, or photographs taken from too far away to appreciate anything important, or photos taken when everyone who could arise my stupid embarrassment had disappeared. Ah! And of course all this photographs taken while off duty in the base that make you smile but that you prefer nobody out of your unit could ever see. We never could earned the salary as photographers.

And for that reason, though I know it is a little OT, I probably could only take a good photograph in a war scenario from the past (where the glory lives). A lot of scenarios are possible, but as a former paratrooper I choose the bridge over the Rhin, in Arnhem.

Mmmmm... this Chivas Regal sharpens my skill in English...
