Barrel lengths varied from 3.5 to 8.375 inches, and I would not call anything more than 2.5 inches "snub nosed". The book calls for 3.5 inches, and that is about the right size for open carry - I like something in the 2 inch range for concealment, anything larger than 5 is only good for target shooting or hunting.

It
is pretty large for a lot of people, even with the standard grip, but you can switch out to something smaller - that will help the grip, if not the overall size.
