fresh water supplies, windmill, readily available supply of fresh food, stockpiled rations regularly rotated out, and small arms/ammo/reloading supplies/spare parts enough to maintain a small infantry squad.
oh and in a region where im not likely to get nuked. not to mention the fact that if its anything too big i would likely have at least a troop of heavily armed cavalrymen in town(granted most the squadron goes to texas when they get out but a decent number hang around my AO)

the best course of action when all is against you is to slow down and think critically about the situation. this way you are not blindly rushing into an ambush and your mind is doing something useful rather than getting you killed.
