After 150 years the marriage customs of locals could be very different from the MP's understanding of "marriage".
Then there is
jus primae noctis that the local overlord might demand thereby causing problems. The locals might set up a MP member into a "marriage" so that the MP team must confront the overlord and end this custom.
Then there are the "extreme" communities such as the Branch Davidians, The Peoples Temple of the Disciples of Christ, etc. and their "marriage" customs that seem to change depending upon who is the leader.
