Proof that we live in an alternate reality: The last US tanks in Germany have left the continent.

Wonder how long before we send them back over the beaches?

If the cycle of history works, they will be sent back.

At least we got to keep them...unlike Operation Omega.

I'm moving to Würzburg in about a month and was bummed to learn that all of the US bases in the area had already closed. The nearest ones were Leighton and Emery Barracks which closed in 2008. My wife and I are going to Würzburg next week to find somewhere to live. Coincidently, high on our lists of possible places to rent is an apartment in the old Würzburg Army Hospital which had been converted to housing in the last few years.

If there are any Germans here let me know. I need to find some fellow gamers once I move.

Benjamin, B.T. lists his location as Ruhrgebiet, Germany. Perhaps you should private message him?

Hi Benjamin,
PM me, if you like!

And more On Topic:
No more American Tankers in Germany? I have to admit, our world has changed in so many ways, that I sometimes feel a little lost. If someone had written a SciFi novel in 1987, that precisely described our de facto world situation, not a single publisher would have issued that. The concept of the T2k universe made much more sense something like 25 years ago.
Don't get me wrong - I'm quite happy, that the whole story took anmother direction, bit still: It is a strange world, we live in.

Interesting times we live in, that's for sure. I'll never forget driving through small German towns, across the countryside during REFORGER and other field exercises.

Is POMCUS and REFORGER still a thing? Do we still have the tanks in storage in Europe, or are those gone now, too?

I believe those are gone as well. They have been moved out over the years and from what I understand most sitting at the Sierra Army Depot in California.

Wow....that is weird to read. Hell, when I was stationed over in Germany in the late 90's during the drawdown, they still had some armored units there.

At least they're leaving under more favorable circumstances, not like in the T2k "Going Home" module where they had to abandon whatever armor they had left for the Germans (Correct me if I'm wrong there) with everything around them and at home in ruins. Strange world indeed...but not necessarily a bad one, all things considered.

Unfortunately, history goes in cycles, and I fear it's only a matter of time (perhaps not in our lifetime, but our children or great grandchildren's time) before those tanks return to the beaches again.

Saw a bot looking at this thread and it seemed timely.

I think we called the above.
