The World Gazetteer
Merc 2000 World Gazetteer The World of the early 21st Century is a chaotic place, full of conflict. Everything from flashpoints, brushfire wars to areas that could easily errupt into full-blown major wars that would have consequences that could spread like a wildfire that would consume the world. A firestorm that could very easily end Human civilization on Earth. The Armed Forces of the United States of America is spread thin fighting it's 'Global War on Terror'... And despite the seriousness that has only increased since 2008, the appearence that the Americans are not as steadfast in their opposition to terror and tyranny has made the world a much more dangerous place. The men and women trapped in the middle of this chaos have chosen to draw a line in the sand and attempt to remain as a ballwark against the raging fire that could consume those they love and care for. Each use their skills and abilities in their own ways to stand in opposition in the face of intolerance, tryanny and facism. In 2003 a top-secret military office was created to fight against those terror networks that threatened the stablity of the world, semi-officially known as Task Force 555 (aka the 'Shadow Chasers') and headquartered in a refurbished WW2 base located in the middle of the American South-West out of the sight of the prying eyes of the world. By 2008 the 'Shadow Chasers' had been buried so deep into the bureacratic maze of the Government that only a very select few knew of their existance. Overseen by a group of high ranking military and civlian officials whom are known as the 'Shadow Cabinet' who by their own charter see themselves as the 'Loyal Opposition' whose goals are the protection and defense of the United States Consitution. They are not loyal to a single political party or ideology, but to the ideals of the the United States Consitition and the creation of the United States of America.
