Default L129A1 Sharpshooters Rifle

http://www.army.mod.uk/equipment/sup...ons/18827.aspx

Only just heard of this today, does anyone know much about it? Who'd have thought that L85 wouldn't be the ultimate weapon and we'd maybe want a 7.62mm semi auto rifle with a 20 round box mag some day. Hmmm, that description sounds like another rifle I've heard of somewhere.....

Seriously, I know that this isn't that similar to an SLR, but its interesting how we've come full circle.

There are "new" rounds being tested all the time to "replace" the .556.
6,8 SPC ,6,5 Grendel springs to mind .As well as 7,62x51 in some cases found more suitable tooperational requirements.

Some have characteristics close to old rounds from the previous century .

I think it would be funny if a 6,5x45 or thereabouts round gained widespread use in the militaries.

It is what we used in our Krag-Jørgensen rifles from the 1890s to 1940 , before it was "obsolete" and phased out...

I heard about this a while ago. Up until the introduction of the L129A1 some units were using surplus L96 rifles for the same role.

There's a good article about it in the latest issue of Combat Arms magazine. After I read that, I Googled and assembled a PDF on it from various sources on the Web.

I love the AR-15 system and all, but damn does everybody have to use it? It looks like a LMT upper, which is surprising since the push has been toward the short stroke gas pistons AR's nowdays.

It is an LMT rifle -- it's based on the LMT-308MWS.

For a semi-auto precision rifle its hard to beat direct gas -- the British option isn't that much different than the SR-25/Mk11/M110 series of guns.
