The issue is the US anti-satellite system did not shoot down all of them. Nothing says how many incoming missiles were knocked down, or how many attempted defenses failed to stop incoming missiles - though apparently a number of them failed. As I recall, ASAT testing never appeared to do that well, even in controlled test cases. Uncle Ted |

On September 13, 1985 P78-1 or Solwind was destroyed by a ASM-135 ASAT anti-satellite missile. Source http://orbitaldebris.jsc.nasa.gov/li...008-214779.pdf Also Operation Burnt Frost was a success, however it dose fall outside of Twilight timeline http://www.mda.mil/system/aegis_one_time_mission.html Here's a link to the article on the Soviet attempts to build a laser for ASAT, funding was the only barrier to it development and employment https://news.google.com/newspapers?n...,2451827&hl=en It was also mentioned how easy it would to knock out GPS and other satellite, here a article on what China would have to do knock out a US satellite. The Principal is sound and I don't see what the Soviets could do what is required. But being at war with China and the US the Soviet resources might be stretched thin. The Article also hints that the phasing out of many photo recon birds, as drones are cheaper and easier to use. http://thediplomat.com/2014/11/china...-capabilities/
