Default 2300AD forum?

I honestly have never played this game but Nate's mentioning of it led me to wonder if a 2300AD forum might get any traction. In general I would not create new forums unless they are going to get activity.

I am of two minds on this.
2300AD is a very different game from twilight 2000 and any post not related to ancient history within the game would pretty much be off topic. However it is an extension of T2k, and if posts were made here they could easily be tagged with a 2300AD keyword and noted in the Forum map. Also if dozens of posts start appearing I could easily create a new forum and move the posts there.

While I have had a passing interest in 2300AD equipment (their fusion->hydrogen fueled vehicles seemed a natural fit for Morrow Project) and the Kaifer (they are just an awesome villan), I really do not know the game well enough to decide.

Anyone have opinions on this.

I had enjoyed the 2300ad RPG alot. It was my default hard sci-fi campaign setting for a very long time. And i use to be a member of the many yahoo groups, until i got fed up with the people who selectively chose the things in canon they loved while ignoring the things that went against their own home-brew campaigns. I even had started two webpages for the game. A canon German Federal Republic page for the Grand Game II, and a website dedicated to My own version of 2300ad that inculded all of the changes to the history thanks to how the Twilight Wars ended...

The primary changes had been in the geography since the T2k campaign we ran when i was in the service had ran the game up to 2050... And our characters had become major players in the post-Twiligth War period, and helped shape the post-war world.

One example was Germany breaking into three post-war 'nation-states'... that was more acurately three defense allainces that brought the many German states together for defensive purposes only... Not acutal centralized federal governments. Another change was the Flemish state of Belgium regaining it's indepdences as Flanders, the German states getting back the Rhineland, and the creation of a 'buffer-state' in the form of Allacse-Lorraine that inculded Luxembourgh.

All in all my 2300ad was alot more in the spirit of the canon setting than what we've seen with the birth of the new 2320ad RPG that was to have been an update of the setting since the writer of the thing chose to follow the example of those who chose to only recognize those aspects of the game they wanted while ignoring the rest...

if you want to create a 2300ad forum i wouldn't mind. i'd post the notes i still have for the game on the major (and minor) Terran powers that exist in the known human explored space.

NO NO NO!!! LOL I am already in information overload right now between TWL 2k and TWL 2013. I will go crazy with 2300AD. (AND don't get me started on the Morrow Project...lol)

BUT I wouldn't mind seeing some of what they forecast.

2320AD RPG? Tell me more.

MajorPo proposed years ago to run a T:2300 campaign and I even started rolling up my character... Dr Michael Fossey, an uplifted gorilla sophontologist. I figured that what better person to be a sophontologist than someone who was a non-human sophont. I thought that Fossey would be a pretty popular surname among uplifted gorillas and the name Michael is from the RL gorilla that used to live with Koko (like Koko, Michael could speak in American sign language). I still hope that one day MajorPo will run that campaign. It was to be a "behind enemy lines" campaign set on TANSTAFL after the Kaifer invasion.

Where to start...

The Käfer War ended with Humanity bombing the Käfer Homeworld back to the stoneage (literally) with the aide of the Pentapods creating a virus that caused those Käfer effected to become DUMB, incapable of ever getting smart.

The German colonies have been declaring independence since the war and German people are wracked with guilt because the German fleet commander had been responsible for orbital bombardments of Käfer worlds (and said commander was arrested and to be tried for war crimes until one of the now independent German colonies did a commando raid on the German warship carrying him back to Earth and he now lives in a home the colonist built for him in secusion), the French are still top-dog (but more of a paper tiger with the British as the power behind the throne)...

there is alot in there... and it's not good. i had high hopes, but instead of getting something really good... i found something horrible.

You could also get the disc at far future enterprise - I was very pleased with the items I bought from them .

At some time I hope to run a 2300AD campaign myself - but I am nerdly going where no man has gone before and will be picking and mixing what I like and what I need to suit my own ends -extensively.

I like the hard science backdrop and the whole "ugly " spaceship deal -not many sleak, aero dynamic craft that look like jets in this game .

I guess I have taken around 500 - 1000 images of the net that I plan to use as illustrations for planets, ships, ship interiors etc as well as the motley assembly of NPCs of all stripes to interact with the PCs.

I have more than enough to handle with our ongoing T2K campaign ,so I dont foresee any dice being rolled in this campaign anytime soon - but I am slowly piecing together houserules and getting a hang of the game and the game universe . I love the " Etranger " site for its great pics of ships etc .

But when I eventually get there I would love a place to discuss the game and get input .

As I have said before the Kaifer were my favorite part of the back story. This just seems really dumb.

Ok there seems to be a desire for a forum. Once anyone has a few things to post I will create it. Let me know when you guys are ready.

like i said, there was a LOT of things they did in 2320ad that just totally blows.

The fact that the Käfer war ended in such a totally contrived way is just part of it. the original ideals behind the game just don't exist in the new version. i totally hate the fact that i had actually spent my money for the PDF of it.

they didn't even give the stats for all of the ships in d20 Traveller format. And that was the only real reason i had bought the thing.

But I do have alot of ideas for 2300ad, and how to make it better and more fun.

Default escape from terra

escape from terra is a web comic that I find good -its not set in the 2300Ad universe , but it still has some hard science and a decent plot ,the fiction

Just thought I would recommend it as a past time .

I think a 2300 forum could be useful. I certainly have plans of one day getting a game going. As you might have guessed from Targan's character idea my version of 2300 isn't quite cannon. Among other things I'm borrowing a bit from David Brin's Uplift novels by including altered gorrilas, chimps and dolphins. I have my own ideas about the Kafers too

I think I'll still have a poke through the 2320 stuff to see if any ideas appeal to me...

Hi natehale1971 I'm also a big fan of 2300AD.

After reading your comments...

It reminded me of a webpage run by Richard Spake along time ago. Are you Richard by any chance?

Hello Richard, and thanks for getting the 2300AD forum going. I wondered why you went of the radar on the yahoo 2300AD groups, seem to remember there was a lot of nonsense about what was canon and what was not some time ago.

You may not remember, but years ago I e-mailed you a bunch of T2K orbats and you e-mailed me the complete Spakesworld universe in return. I still have all those Spakesworld articles on disk. A lot of fun.

In general we have avoided those sort of arguments on this forum, but at Nate's (Richard's) suggestion I have split off his stuff into a sub forum. Seems a bit odd to have a sub forum more active that the main forum, but hopefully the main 2300AD forum will grow to cover that fact.

I'll do that Richard, although it will take a few days as I have to root around and find that disk and then sort through all the 2300ad files I have stored, and then copy and paste it on to a world file.

Later

I have seen this happen a few times on this forum and its parent forum - members having lost material they had written then re-connecting with other members who used to frequent other forums and have copies of their work stored away. I think it is an excellent extra benefit of participating in a forum such as this, where people so often seem to be prepared to go out of their way to assist one another. Bravo.

I have posted on the T2300 forum the beginnings of the rules MajorPo and I wrote for creating transgenic characters, namely uplifted gorillas.

These are already in existence, they are simply called "Jean Claude Van Damme".
