Default Map Question

Does anyone know a source for a overlay I can place on maps...or an addon for google maps to divide into 1sq mile blocks or hexagons or soemthing?

I LOVE google maps but hate that I cant divide it into sections like say they did with the MERC2000 and the campaign maps towards the end of the book.

Anyone have any ideas?

Miles? Oh, you must live in one of those countries that doesn't use metric. Kickin' it old skool huh?

T2K is a military game. You should use klicks.

I don't know of anything that will do anything like this with Google Maps, but there are options if you're willing to use OpenStreetMap (OSM) instead.

Osmarender is a program to take OSM data and create a SVG map file. It can optionally include a 1km grid. It's not very easy to set up, unfortunately.

http://maposmatic.org/ is a web service that creates maps of cities using OSM data (with a grid). Currently, it only covers the metropolitan France area.

Some years ago, I wrote a macro for OpenOffice Draw that would draw a hex grid onto a page. I don't know if I've still got it, but it would be simple to create a macro to create a square grid. You could put a map image exported from OSM under the grid easily enough.

A GM in a PbP I play in produced a very nice map using photoshop, a satellite map image from Google Maps, and the following website. Don't ask me how he did it, being as I'm computer use challenged, but I'm sure a smart guy like you can figure it out. Thanks, NC!

He used mkhexgrid. The website can be found here:
