Default Alternative Naval Firepower

So I was wondering about how to organize some mobile artillery for my campaign. Gaining access to a destroyer/cruiser might be a stretch, so i was thinking of artillery pcs mounted on the front of some of the larger tugs.

If the deck and under structure were reinforced do you think its possible to mount a M198 towed on one safely? Would it worth the drama?

A howitzer of 155mm calibre could be a little big for a tugboat. But 105mm should be OK

How about this link for inspiration? http://www.ppvolunteers.org/pdf_file...avy_Part_3.pdf

The Monitors shown on the last few pages might be what you're looking for

In my PoV campaign, the PCs mounted an 82mm Vasilek automortar on the Wisla Krolowa river tug. It's proven a devastating weapon in both the direct and indirect fire modes.

Thought is 2 fold...

One is for indirect fore support of ground bases I have along Staten Island/Long Island. Perhaps a tug with a 105 towed on board...or even a barge with a few larger arty pcs being pushed by said tug.

Two is for more of a direct fire role with ship to ship combat and such. Since I tend to use something along the HQ canon, I can expect quite a few more naval quality ships in my local then I had before. Although oil may be in short supply now, it wont be forever. Since I am not sure how I feel about the "Project" of mine acquiring a few frigates I need an alternate way to deal with them if need be.

Small and fast PBR style boats with an improvised torpedo was my idea for the naval combat

I would go with a barge, even a motor powered barge to allow it to move slowly or manuver to counter the current and mount a couple batteries of mortars or even rocket launchers which are actualy easier to make than a canon, its easy to make a rail and tube for a rocket, and the rocket is pretty simple to make. So, you have a built in set of rails with a few dozen tubes to fire which would lay waste to the target area.
