Default OT Complacency Warning

There had been a thread titled "What I have because I play T2K". I can not find that thread, so I will post these thoughts here.

Night before last, there was a weather advisory for Fayetteville, NC and the surrounding areas. We had had a storm a few nights before that dumped 5+ inches of rain on a VERY dry country side. Now the weather forcast was for an additional storm with 5 -10 more inches of rain, some winds in the 30 -40 MPH range.

From that I thought about the possibility of power outage due to tree damage or accidents knocking down power lines. So I went through the house doing my normal pre storm check list. You know, cars have enough gas, there are enough batteries for the flashlights and radios, Rain coats ready, plastic tarps ready, there is enough water and food.....

OOPS....Because of Real Life, I had let my food supply slip from a 30 day supply for two down to a week.

I got my reserve cash, and out the door I went. I re-built my supply in a couple of hours.

FYI, my idea of a MRE is two cans of chunky soup, a can of mixed fruit, some crackers and a gallon of water. It would keep one person going for one day with about 1000 -1200 calories and plenty of fluid. Easy to eat even with no power to cook.

So take it from a fellow gamer...

Check your stuff every now and again. Make sure you have what you THINK you have.

I had plenty of warning to do what I had to do....but what if I didn't have the warning.....

I wish I had the money to build up a 30-day supply of food and emergency supplies. I usually don't have more than a few days' food in the house at any time.

Trust me, Paul. I was not able to do it overnight. I started by buying one extra can of soup/fruit/whatever anytime I went shopping. The other thing I did was take $5.00 per paycheck as my cash reserve. That reserve is the only way I could react the way I did.

a 30-day supply of ammo is what I need.

That would be lucky to last me 30 hours, unless you're talking half a tonne per day.
