DIA vs CIA in Europe

I've read through the archives here and found some good information on this subject with regards to the modules and game play for the US, but I've seen little in the way of information for Europe.

From what I've gathered for the books and modules (I don't have access to the Challenge Magazine articles, and I am using T2K ver 1) the situation in Europe is strained at best and verging on hostile depending upon where you are. The impression I've had from the books is that the DIA and CIA don't like each other and seem to work at odds with each other except in a few exceptional instances. The implication from the game writers is that the CIA and DIA are openly hostile at times yet none of the modules ever broaches this subject at all. Both organizations could potentially gain a lot with regards to sources and political situations as they are in the game. In the module for the Free City of Krakow I also get the impression that the writers believe that there are cloak and dagger games being constantly played and often times becoming lethal, even though they don't openly write on that subject.

I'm just curious on what everyone thinks of the situation between these two organizations in Europe as well as ideas on how they interact and compete with each other.

So far from home, I'd think it depends on the agents and situations involved. Most are probably going to ignore each other-- why add to your list of enemies needlessly? In Krakow, for instance, I think they were beginning to take on a non-hostile relationship. Both are going to be very cautious, afraid of not only getting sucked into the other's control, but of making it easier for the KGB to roll up both their networks at once.

In general, the CIA fellows are going to have to be a lot more sneaky, as they have effectively zero chance of getting help from any US military assets nearby. They're going to have to lean a lot more on locally-recruited folks, like their 10th Guards Tank Division outside Warsaw.
