Patrick Leigh Fermor
The death was announced recenly of Patrick Leigh Fermor, a British travel writer also famous as one of the SOE agents who kidnapped the German governor of Crete in 1944, driving him through 22 checkpoints and the centre of Heraklion in hs own staff car before abandoning the car and marching the governor around Crete for nearly three weeks before pickup in a Royal Navy launch.
