Default Trade Packs

Dragoon500ly listed his version of a Trade Pack And I suspect that this could be worth a discussion thread in its own right

How often is the "canon" Trade Pack used? Like everyone else, I modify things

My additions:

1. books- all reprinted to be small enough to fit in a shirt pocket

Ranger Handbook
Ditch Medicine: Advanced Field Procedures For Emergencies
Where There Is No Dentist by Murray Dickson
Where There Is No Doctor by David Werner (Village Healthcare handbook)
Back to Basics: A Complete Guide to Traditional Skills
Medicinal Plants of North America: A Field Guide by Jim Meuninck

2. luxuries

Tabasco sauce
Belgian Chocolate

3. tools

Magnifying glass
pack of 10 disposable scalpels
duct tape

These are some of the things that I have thrown into trade packs.

1) Magnesium Fire Starters

2) 10 feet of thin wire. (Good for setting traps for small critters. Amazing what a rabbit can add to the taste of the local soup)

3) Bottles with 100 count water purification tabs.

4) 100 round boxes of .22 LR (Best round for small game hunting IMHO)

5) One pound containers of salt.

6) Saw this happen only one time, but boy did it make a hit with the local trading community, one of those 10-20 spice rack things with full bottles.

My $0.02

Mike

Wouldn't there really be call for two types of Trade packs? One of necessities and one of luxuries?

I went with the low-end and high-end trade packs and they turned out to be more trouble than its worth.

So I went back to a single trade pack with a variety of items. The intent is a variety of "common" goods that mind wind up in short supply, at least locally, in play, the first contact pack is used, with a selection of trade goods rounding out the load.

Seems to work in my ftf games.

I just would not like to see the trade pack turned into the "portable hole" concept.

It is a finite resource, and one meant to introduce a Team into a Community not buy it out right.

I think the contention in the contents would come between Bruce and the Council. Bruce would have the experience but, the Council will know business.

In my games there are three types of Trade Packs... One of necessities, one of luxuries (and pogie bait) and the one that has a mix of both types of goods.

The necessities trade pack contains a lot of Health and Comfort Packs. Especially those for women (you know for their monthly visitor).

Your wife can't remember your last name, your kids don't want to talk to you... You get to eat a lot of meals by yourself. Trust me kid, nobody wants to be that guy. I do this because there is nobody else to do it right now. Believe me if there was somebody else to do it, I would let them do it. There's not, so I'm doing it.
