OT: spam message in my inbox
boogiedowndonovan 04-24-2008, 01:55 PM hey anyone know who or how to report a spam message in my inbox?
anyone else get some spam about helping some poor doctoral student out by purchasing a $10 gift certificate? ******************** Canadian Army 04-24-2008, 06:39 PM I just checked and I got it too. ******************** pmulcahy 04-24-2008, 09:00 PM I'm surprised that's the only spam you've gotten even in the last email check! Pretty much, it doesn't matter what you do -- it really can't be stopped. The best you can do is filter it, but you have to check to make sure that legitimate email didn't actually end up getting filtered by a mistaken spam filter. I've actually tried to track down, find, and stop spam by notifying the spammer's ISP. It's pointless. The spammers of today tend to spoof email addresses (I sometimes even get spam from myself, so to speak!), run through zombie computers, route their spam through multiple computers -- there are zillions of tricks. And even if you do find the actual originating ISP, you'll find they don't really want to stop the spammers -- though spamming can be profitable, the spammers do have to pay the originating ISP, and those ISPs make a decent amount of money from it. ******************** Targan 04-25-2008, 12:24 AM This problem has already been reported to Dave the site administrator by someone over at the CyberChat or The Keep forums (I can't remember which one). I would expect that Dave would be interested in receiving a report from anyone receiving spam in their inbox so he can block the culprit from the site. ******************** |
