OT :The Azores
Does anyone have any experience from time on the Azore Islands? I am curious about the kinda of life and culture that might be there...

My father stopped there a few times when he was still in the Navy, I have a keychain from there. Wiki has some info about the island http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azores

I have read the Wiki and other assorted web links but I am wondering if anyone has personal knowledge about the islands.
Reason I ask is American politics is getting really ridicules and the wife and I are thinking about moving to a rural area and just trying to lead the very simple rustic old school Italian/Spanish type of lifestyles...

That's bad, when our politics have gotten so bad that it's chasing Americans out of their own country. I'd say stick with it -- can't fix anything if everyone runs for the doors.

Umm, wow. For real? Living somewhere as remote as the Azores would certainly involve leading a "very simple rustic old school Italian/Spanish type of lifestyle" but it seems pretty extreme to me. There must be many places on earth where you could live and not be quite so... isolated? Why not move to Australia? We have massive amounts of room and you could find yourself a nice out-of-the-way patch without losing all of the first world niceties.
