Used bookstores - T2k resources
Thought I would share a story about a lucky find at a local used bookstore I like to frequent. I go there evry three weeks or so just to look around and see what I can find that looks interesting; sci-fi, fiction, history, doesn't matter.
So I was looking at the the discount rack and found two excellent books for T2k background data: 1. Forces 1989 - ISBN 0-933852 85 1 This book features the USS Nimitz, military medicine, and article on the future of the APC, and info on the War in the Gulf. 2. The Rapid Deployment Forces - ISBN 0-668-06211-8 This books is self explanatory. It covers RDF forces slated for the gulf; 101st Airborne, USMC, etc Best part is I picked up each book for $3. So if there is a used bookstore near you check it out. Maybe there are hidden treAsures for you too |

My long-gone favorite local used bookstore had tons and tons of army FMs. A lot of it was pretty mundane stuff, but there were some interesting ones too. I seem to recall one that...crap I can't even remember what it was but there was a silhouette of a T62 from front, left & right side & rear with stadia drawn over each silhouette so it must have been for some kind of heavy weapon. At least that section of it anyway.

When my family goes camping up in Maine there's an 'antique' bookstore about an hour away. My Dad and I always make the trip because there's always great finds at great deals. I should spend some more time in the 'History/Military' section this year!

I'm lucky in that I live in a city that has four Half Price Books stores. But do not ignore Barnes & Noble; look to their Bargain Books section -- I once got a $120 book about World Air Power for $15.
Also, do not ignore Amazon and Alibris. I'll grant you that Alibris's shipping rates are choke-on-your-heart high, but it can be worth it given the low price of some of their books and the fact that you often can't find them anywhere else.

Makes sense. "If you're right with God, this is the only way you'll ever have to view a T62."

A few years ago I got a 2002-2003 copy of Jane's Military Vehicles and Logistics; I paid $90 at Half-Price Books, but that's a $550 book when it was new, and it was about 2006 when I bought it. It's like my biggest treasure.

Yeah - I got mine when I was flush with post-deployment money. Had them all of three months before some barracks thief stole them and sold them. Probably for beer money the idiot.
I was *so* pissed. At least the chain of command knew how much those things cost - which meant they went ballistic. Never did find the rat.
