Twilight:2000. Spreading the Word
Bon dia!
In the last days of October, Vilafranca del Penedès (a Catalan town, 50km from Barcelona) celebrated its annually game convention. And there we go, to spread the “word of Twilight” and to recruit some followers. Given that the game was relatively unknown among the Catalan and Spanish public, and the important quantity of games offered, I had my own doubts about the availability of people wishing to play the game, so, following the advice from a friend with a lot of experience in gaming conventions, I prepared some flyers and let the gaming table ready with all the attractive gaming items available: the map of the Poland offensive, the individual weapons charts used by each character, our color-printed character sheets with the ready to use characters, the photos of the playing characters in each chair… And I waited to see if anybody took the bait. Surprisingly, I had five players in half an hour: a nice mixture of inexperienced players, with one veteran who served as a great help in keeping the rtyhm of the game. None of them had played Twilight:2000 before and only two of them (one currently in the military and one veteran) had hear about the it. The other three players were seventeen years old. Not surprisingly, some introduction about the Cold War was needed. The overall experience was pleasant and I ended the day with a large smile in my face. After all, I think it’s the first time I’m able to run a one-shot adventure in one afternoon. And more important, the players are wishing to repeat the experience. As a detail, a lot of adults who, I suppose, were the fathers of my youngest players, make me a lot of questions about Twilight:2000 and the game mechanics. I suspect they would have sat down to play with us if their sons would not have feel uncomfortable with the decision. For sure, not explanations about what was the Cold War would be needed with them. A pair of pictures (low quality, sorry) about the event and one of our flyers:
