Large-scale combat in 1e?
How do you handle large numbers of opponents in 1e? Short of buying "The Last Battle" I mean.

Oh you mean like you are about to do with us?
When we did my game since we had so many NPC's on each side he ran them as squads instead of individuals, with the PC's being run as single combatants. There are other systems out there - I remember him using something from Dungeons and Dragons at the time that was used for larger scale battles but cant remember the product |

Roll dice, look up notes, choose most dynamic result for the PCs...
If it looks honest to the PCs then it looks fine. Alternatively ask them to roll dice without telling them what for and use their own interpretations! |

The Ruins of Warsaw module has large scale combat rules.

I found that I enjoy large scale combat with Ruins of Warsaw game better then I do the individual fighting rules.
