Post-Apocalyptic Kitchens
This blogger appears to be a certified chef and some sort of reenactor who combines his interests in a blog dedicated to recreating historical military ration dishes like WW1 British Meat & Veg stew.
Some of his posts, however, deal with the cooking side of things, including some discussions of cooking meals in British or German mess kits as well as a couple posts on improvised British field ovens that look like something straight out of your better appointed military cantonment or out behind a modern farm house trying to make do with lots of manual laborers and no electric, natural gas, or other energy to run a modern kitchen. Seems like some nice ideas for detailing or fleshing out descriptions of that segment of life in T2K (which should probably be a pretty central aspect and motivator for PCs). |

I DO like the looks of that stove. Put it under an arbor or shed roof and it's a go for sure.

Not quite on topic, but related.
It strikes me that if the SHTF, one of the last things you would want to do is cook outside. The smell and the smoke would carry a LONG way and advertise to ALL that you have food and a way to prepare it. I could see me bringing in my propane fired grill into the house to eliminate the smoke issue and cut way down on the smell factor. Yes, I would have to leave a window cracked for O2 exchange, but other than that, I think I am going to cook indoors. I am making the assumption that once SHTF, my natural gas stove will be out of commission.

In my own twisted little way of thinking, attracting people might be a handy thing, if you're trying to lure marauders in to a well laid out ambush. And if the inquisitive party is not demonstrably predatory, a meeting over breakfast might lead to new rumors or local information, a new hireling/ally, or a new mission.
