Was in an on-line game that basically went on hiatus due to real life intruding into the game but may be starting a game up myself soon online - looking into what is the best way for setting up an online game - havent done that before

I'd love to play, as well. Though I own all rule systems, I've never really played with any of them. This will sound heretical to many, I'm sure, but I'm currently trying to port the rules to a slightly less crunchy version and that is the limit of my current involvement with T2K, other than reading up on Cold War topics and wishing I could play.
Do people here think online play-by-post/forum-style games work best, or do you think a map and chat based game is the way to go (e.g. roll20.net)? Personally, I favor a mix, with a lot of role play and day to day planning being done in posts as often as people favor, given their schedule and battles being played out in short burst sessions in real time, online.
