Default LAV-90

I'm working on a new (fictional) version of the LAV-75. When ARES developed the 75mm autocannon, they also developed a 90mm version of the same gun, but only built two working examples for the Army.

I'm working on a version of the LAV-75 with that gun. But I need a good back story -- I don't like the one I have.

Help?

We've already created a backstory for an even more heavily up-gunned LAV-75 (see link). Perhaps you could work off what we've got. The M20 Ridgway write-up included a bit about the 75mm gun being underpowered against the latest generation of Russian MBTs. Perhaps the 90mm gun was an interim attempt to increase the effectiveness of the LAV-75 main armament vs. Soviet MBTs without adding too much weight.

A PDF of my M20 Ridgway write-up is attached to one of my messages on the last page of the thread. I hope you can make use of it.

Perhaps the right team at the right village at the right time were able to put a 90mm on the LAV? I'd imagine this kind of self-improvement is common in T2K.

If PCs come across it, it would mean;
Do they mistaken attack the LAV and have to fight it?
Make friends with the owners?
There must be the tools to do this kind of work, do the PCs need tools?
The team must be well equipped and skilled, the PCs or maybe evil NPSs might be interested in the team and the PCs get pulled into their fight?
Does the team have 90mm ammo (there could be a small adventure to get it)?

This would seem that the ARES 90mm was not produced; in this case, where did they get one of two experimental and mothballed gun systems?

Paul,

How about a return of the tank destroyer, and the LAV is small, quick and easy to make.

depending on the Theater of Operations i could see some LAV's up gunned from deadlined V150s sporting the 90mm turret. the Cadillac Gauge turret being mostly plug and play across the majority of their hulls and relatively easy you modify another manufacturers hulls to fit the more modular system. (although i do not reccomend mounting the 105mm turret on a V150 unless you want those funny moments where it rolls over when firing the main gun.)
