One thing to keep in mind, except for the low yield weapons, to be close enough to get a lethal dose of prompt radiation, you have to be well within both the blast radius and the thermal pulse. In other words, most radiation casualties will be from fallout and accumulated exposure. If you survive the initial detonation unhurt, you should make it as long as you get out of the fallout plume and decontaminate - fast.
