Default Olefin has been permabanned for Repeatedly ignoring moderator instructions.

It takes a lot to get banned here (this is the first one), but everything has a threshold.

He certainly had a lot of useful knowledge. But also clearly a real inability to listen to others or restrain needless aggression, so I don't think this was a bad decision. He was certainly cautioned about his tone many, many times that I've seen just in my relatively short time here.

It breaks my heart to see that, but I understand why it happened. Keep in mind that no one Moderator can ban you. They have a meeting and vote on it. KATO has had a pretty rough couple of years and even considered shutting the Forum down. Having my own issues (my parents died in 2019 & 2021 respectively) I can feel for him and his. Olefin can get pretty aggressive, especially when he thinks "canon" is being violated.

That being said, I feel very badly for Olefin. He put a large amount of effort into this Forum and loved it like it was his own. I wish that there was a lesser punishment involved, but he has been banned before, so it's not my place to say as a simple Forum member.

One thing that must be said about this forum is the level of civility here compared to other forums I participate in. Even "heated exchanges" here don't hold a candle to the exchanges in a D&D forum. This Forum and The Chaosium BRP/Runequest Forums are the most welcoming I have ever been in. I have been literally ATTACKED (ie sworn at or called names) for things as minor as suggesting rules changes in the DRAGON'SFOOT, GIANT IN THE PLAYGROUND, The DESIGN MECHANISM, and DUMPSHOCK Forums. The most toxic forums I have ever been in are the D&D 5e forums. They usually cannot even stand each other, let alone someone like me who likes to tinker with the rules. There is one group of (mostly Millenial) "enlightened 5e gamers" on GITP that are pretty hostile! So much for the "most tolerant generation ever."

FULL DISCLOSER HERE... I am FRIENDS with KATO, Olefin, and Teg so my opinion is hardly neutral in the matter.

I'm saddened by this as well. He seemed like a decent enough guy just way too passionate on some things. I hope at some point in the future it might be reconsidered but understand why you all felt it was necessary and in the end its Kato's board the rest of us are just guests.

It's sad to see members leave, no matter why, and especially in cases where the member has been enriching the community for a long time. However, rules need to be obeyed, especially whenever it comes to keeping it civil and constructive.

That being said, I'm confident that this nuclear option will not be used too frequently. I hope his contributions to the greater T2K community will remain available via other channels. I wish him well and happy gaming!
