Default OT _ Artillery Query

Hi,
One of my wife's friends has just deployed to Afghanistan and sent her an eBluey to say hello. His return address is given as CPIF Battery, 5 RA.

While I obviously appreciate who the 5th Royal Artillery are, what is a CPIF battery?

Thanks
Malc

Obviously this also means I have a new address to send my old books to - my company manged a respectable 23 parcels to the Marines last time round (not bad for 32 staff).

5th Regiment Royal Artillery serves in the surveillance and target acquisition role, and is equipped with various ranging and location equipment. The regiment has a six batteries. and a REME Workshop with Royal Logistic Corps stores section attached. (Not strictly a battery, but fills a vital role in the regiment).

I have no idea what CPIF means.

Using Google, the one that keeps coming up is "Cost Plus Incentive Fee," and I don't think that would apply,

If I had to take a WAG (Wild-Ass Guess), maybe it's something like "Command Post Indirect Fire" -- like an FDC (Fire Direction Center) in the US Army.

Well, I was putting together my first box this afternoon (this poor guy has no idea what he's let himself in for!) as there is a really good sweetshop near me that specialises in "old-school" sweets (although they fell hugely in my esteem when they had no idea what Maynards Milk Bottle Gums were) so I popped a note in to ask him what the hell he did (assuming it wasn't a state secret).

Don't forget Toilet Paper for the box. I bought some for my Brother's box when he was deployed and it came in very handy!

TOILET PAPER!!!

Brilliant! I can remember the ten thin sheets of greasepaper we received in the 24 hour ration packs - might as well be wiping with teflon for all the good they did!

I made it a habit to carry a roll of paper in my pack for the section's use. Had it in a plastic bag in a Minimi ammo pouch attached to the exterior of the pack (right next to my hand axe).
