Firefighters
Reading some things in the US Army issue weapon threads, I had the envy to design the followings. I hope you'll like them. I forgot the air firefighters attached to the french air force. Strangely Fire Fighters have been largely forgotten by T2K but may be some of you have some elements on your own.
For my parts I designed the two that are attached to the military. I'll try to post something on air, professionals and volunteers later. If you have any critics feel free. Brigade des Sapeurs Pompiers de Paris (BSPP) It counts 7412 personnel. Its members are all formed to basic infantry training and outside of the fire equipments; it is equipped with assault rifle. The UES are specially trained units operating at special locations (gas extraction, missile/spatial launch pad, sensitive art centers). In addition, elements are regularly deployed abroad in places such as Lebanon. Their motto is “Sauver ou Périr” (Saving or Dying). It is placed under the authority of a General with a Colonel heading each group and a captain leading the UES. Its OOB is the following - 1st Fire Group: o 7th, 9th, 10th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 24th and 26th Companies - 2nd Fire Group o 1st, 2nd, 8th, 11th, 15th, 17th, 22nd and 23rd Companies - 3rd Fire Group o 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 16th, 21st, 27th and 28th Companies - Support Group o HQ Company o Independent Company o Support and Services Company o 5 UES (Specialized Elemental Units): Larq-Artix, Biscarosse, Kourou, Louvre and National Library - Formation and Instruction Group Basic Training - Biology : 0 - Computer : 0 - Ground Vehicle (Wheeled) : 1 - Medical (Trauma Aid) : 1 - Small Arms (Rifle) : 2 - Swimming : 1 - Thrown Weapon : 0 - Unarmed Martial Arts: : 1 BSPP Enlisted Entry: No prison record First Term Skills (3 years term)* - Climbing : 1 - Fire Fighting : 2 - Ground Vehicle (Wheeled) : 1 - Medical (Trauma Aid) : 2 - Small Arms (Rifle) : 1 Subsequent Term Skills (3 years term)* - Biology - Chemistry - Climbing - Computer - Construction - Excavation - Fire Fighting - Ground Vehicle (Tracked) - Ground Vehicle (Wheeled) - Leadership - Medical (Trauma Aid) - Small Arms (Rifle) - Survival - Swimming - Unarmed Martial Arts Promotion: Special. In the term when he reaches the rank of Adjudant (and only for that term), he gets three secondary skills. * Due to the intensity of that profession, each term as an enlisted has a length of three years instead of the regular 4 years game term. In Chicago all firefighters get 2 days off for every one (24 hour) day working. And an additional day off for every 3 days worked, plus something like an additional 20 sick and personal days.
Virtually every firefighter I know has a second Job, so I would probably allow 3 secondary activities or perhaps another overlapping term with half points. |

Two secondary activities would be good , then. Three during the term as Adjudant. |

More from the firefighter front
As my kids are sick and as I can't do much more than that, here are the additional firefighter profession I designed this morning. They are made from the French friefighters and are, of course, open to critics. If anynone has some suggestion, I'll be more than happy to see them. IMO, some physical prerequisite must be applied I didn't do it so far (need more thinking). In addition, for the volunteers, the extra skill points allowed must be up to the GM (everyone has to do his job). I doubt that an attorney or a commercial pilot will be allowed as much extra time off as a farmer or a mechanic.
Professional Firefighters Several countries, such as France, have dedicated professional firefighters that compose the Fire Brigades. These men and women, although not military often progress in ranks in way similar to that of their military counter parts. Here is this profession as I designed it for France. I hope it can work for other countries but if it doesn’t, feel free to modify it. Firefighter Enlisted Entry: No prerequisite First Term Skills (3 years term)* - Climbing : 1 - Fire Fighting : 2 - Ground Vehicle (Wheeled) : 1 - Medical (Trauma Aid) : 1 - Swimming : 1 Subsequent Term Skills (3 years term)* - Biology - Chemistry - Climbing - Computer - Construction - Excavation - Fire Fighting - Ground Vehicle (Tracked) - Ground Vehicle (Wheeled) - Leadership - Mechanic - Medical (Trauma Aid) - Observation - Scuba - Small Watercraft - Survival - Swimming Promotion: Special. Contact: One per term – Government, Journalism, Medical. Roll 1D10 for 7+ for the contact to be foreign. Special: The character receives a breathing mask and a fire suit as basic equipment. Two secondary skills. * Due to the intensity of that profession, each term as an enlisted has a length of three years instead of the regular 4 years game term. Ranks: Caporal (Corporal) : One term, Medical(Trauma Aid) 5, Leadership 1 Caporal-Chef (Technical Corporal) : One term as Caporal Sergent (Sergeant) : One term as Caporal/Caporal-chef, Leadership 2 Sergent-chef (Staff Sergeant) : One term as Sergent Adjudant (Technical Sergeant) : One term as Sergent/Sergent-chef, Leadership 3 Adjudant-chef (Master Sergeant) : One term as Adjudant Major (2nd Lieutnant) : Only after two terms as Adjudant-chef and after reaching the age of 50. Firefighter Officer Entry: Undergraduate School (1 skill points in leadership). First Term Skills - Climbing : 1 - Fire Fighting : 2 - Ground Vehicle (Wheeled) : 1 - Leadership : 1 - Medical (Trauma Aid) : 1 Subsequent Term Skills - Biology - Chemistry - Climbing - Computer - Construction - Electronics - Excavation - Fire Fighting - Ground Vehicle (Wheeled) - Language - Leadership - Mechanic - Metallurgy - Medical (Trauma Aid) - Navigation - Observation - Persuasion - Scuba - Small Watercraft - Survival - Swimming Promotion: Unlike the other military branch, promotion is automatic after each term. Contact: Two per term – Government, Journalism, Medical, Military. Roll 1D10 for 6+ for the contact to be foreign. Special: The character receives a breathing mask and a fire suit as basic equipment. Two secondary skills. Ranks: Lieutenant (1st Lieutnant) : First term rank Capitain (Captain) : Second term Commandant (Major) : Third term Lieutenant-Colonel (Lt-Colonel) : Fourth term Colonel (Colonel) : Fifth term Volunteer Firefighters Most countries supplement their professional fire brigades with volunteers. These men and women have regular jobs and devote their secondary activity to this. In some countries, such as Portugal, all firefighters are volunteers. In the case of Portugal, it proved to be a disadvantage as these volunteers, despite unquestionable bravery proved unable to handle specific fires such as gigantic wood fires. Volunteer Enlisted Entry: Must be taken as secondary skill (no other secondary skill allowed for the first term), civilian profession only. First Term Skills - Fire Fighting : 2 - Medical (Trauma Aid) : 2 Subsequent Term Skills: Skill points to be chosen in the followings - Climbing - Excavation - Fire Fighting - Ground Vehicle (Tracked) - Ground Vehicle (Wheeled) - Leadership - Medical (Trauma Aid) - Observation - Survival - Swimming Promotion: Special. Special: The character receives a breathing mask and a helmet as basic equipment. The number of skill points allowed as a volunteer firefighter depends on the player and can go up to 3/4. 1 is given as regular secondary skill (2 if the character is allowed 2 secondary activities). In the second term, 2 additional skill points can be used for the volunteer skill list. However, it leaves the character with only 3 term skills for his regular activity. In the third and fourth term, 1 additional skill points can be used for the volunteer skill list. It leaves the character with respectively 3 and 2 term skills for his regular activity. From the character fifth term, this is not allowed anymore. Ranks: Caporal (Corporal) : One term, Medical(Trauma Aid) 5, Leadership 1 Caporal-Chef (Technical Corporal) : One term as Caporal Sergent (Sergeant) : One term as Caporal/Caporal-chef, Leadership 2 Sergent-chef (Staff Sergeant) : One term as Sergent Adjudant (Technical Sergeant) : One term as Sergent/Sergent-chef, Leadership 3 Adjudant-chef (Master Sergeant) : One term as Adjudant Major (2nd Lieutnant) : Only after two terms as Adjudant-chef and after reaching the age of 50. Volunteer Officer Entry: Must be taken as secondary skill (no other secondary skill allowed for the first term), civilian profession only and undergraduate university. First Term Skills - Fire Fighting : 2 - Leadership : 1 - Medical (Trauma Aid) : 1 Subsequent Term Skills: Skill points to be chosen in the followings - Climbing - Excavation - Fire Fighting - Ground Vehicle (Tracked) - Ground Vehicle (Wheeled) - Leadership - Medical (Trauma Aid) - Navigation - Observation - Persuasion - Survival - Swimming Promotion: Promotion is automatic after each term. A professional officer of the same rank will be considered of an higher rank if one is present. Ranks: Lieutenant (1st Lieutnant) : First term rank Capitain (Captain) : Second term Commandant (Major) : Third term Lieutenant-Colonel (Lt-Colonel) : Fourth term Colonel (Colonel) : Fifth term Pompiers de l’Air (Air Force Firefighter) Specialized in fire security for the air and nuclear components, they depend of the Air Force. They have no specific OOB but there is at least a squadron at every base. Unlike other firefighters, they strictly belong to the military and their promotion is that of regular troopers. Basic Training - Autogun : 0 - Fire Fighting : 1 - Ground Vehicle (Wheeled) : 1 - Medical (Trauma Aid) : 1 - Small Arms : 1 - Swimming : 1 - Unarmed Martial Arts: : 1 Pompier de l’Air, Enlisted Entry: Less than 25 years old, Ground Vehicle (Wheeled) 2, Survival 2. Fire Bomber Pilots
I just wanted to add a little something on fire bomber pilots. I'll consider them to be commercial pilot with only a slight difference in their first term skills.
First Term Skills: - Computer: 1 - Navigation: 2 - Observation: 1 - Pilot: 2 Subsequent Term skills and else (as commercial pilot) What is more important is their previous carreers. Prerequisite: - One term in the National Military Academy. - Following term as naval or air force pilot (fixed wing). - one additional terms as naval or air force pilot (fixed wing). Therefore, your character can't become a fire bomber pilot before reaching the fourth term. In addition you can't apply for that carrer after the fifth term (due to age). If you are French, it would be more appropriate to be a naval pilot. Most of our fire bomber pilots were naval pilots before (not mandatory so). |

Like their French and American counterparts I believe it's common for them to have a second job - taxi driver is apparently a favourite. Quite a few are also decent golfers...

One on and two off is pretty standard although there are a few variations mostly just jiggering the proportions around (4 on 7 off say) ether way ya cut it it’s a lot of free time and if you don’t fill it up somehow next thing you know your sleeping all day. I know a lot of guy’s that ether work in different matince/skilled craft jobs or run there own small business a lot of paid also volunteer (assuming thay live in a deferent county than thay work) . One thing to keep in mind (to a grater extent with volunteer but you see it in paid as well) it that there can be quite a lot of variability between station in skill’s, equipment and responsibility’s. Some stations are strait fire* some are home to specialized pieces with associated specialized training. Also the exect mix of skills among the members can make quite a deference. For example there’s one of are stations that could easily be mistaken for a large garage /mecian shop (thay bought a standard tank truck and did the conversion to fire tanker themselves as well as refurbishing and rebuilding there own fire jeep) * at lest one engine maybe a secondary engine/tanker, utility truck(big tool box on wheels with basic medical supplies), car (depending on location) and brush truck(agine depending). |
