Default Operation Proud Mary?

Every time I see the Operation Proud Lion thread, Tina Turner singing "Proud Mary" runs through my head. Anyone want to take a stab at dreaming up an Operation Proud Mary? Anywhere in the world. (I'd do it, but I'm no good at back story except for a few blurbs here and there.)

Just a weird thought...

I don't know about Proud Mary (although as a long time Creedence Clearwater Revival fan I love the song) but I reckon there might have been a few things that would qualify as an Operation "Hail Mary" during the Twilight War...

1. Amphibious thrust along the Wisla River to secure the approaches to Warsaw.

2. Clearing of the channels from New Orleans to the Gulf of Mexico, to ensure safe transport of crude oil from a surviving operating oil platform.

3. Refurbishing of a coal-fired steam-generating power station. ("Proud Mary keep on burning")

Ah, I miss the old days when an operation name was largely random and wasn't *supposed* to have any connection to the mission.

Piece of minor trivia but AFAIK the British Army has always used a two word code name if an excercise (e.g. Operation Swift Sword in Oman a few years ago) and a one word code name if an actual operation (e.g. Operation Corporate for the Falkands War, Operation Granby for Gulf War 1, etc).

I'm sure I read somewhere that the one word code names are generated completely at random by a computer in the Ministry of Defence.

Yeah, I was thinking that at least a few Russian intel folks would know the song Proud Mary and would assume it was a riverine operation or one involving a major river.

Perhaps a desert operation in Iran or something would be more appropriate.

Hey that would make Operational Security too easy.

Now there's a really interesting idea for an adventure or encounter. A group of a sect of Christians (who could, in this context, still be heavily-armed both with weapons and religious literature) who are trying to restore the ruined earth by finding the last of the bloodline of Jesus (or better yet, believe they have already found this person). They believe that this person must be protected at all costs because he will be inhabited by Jesus's spirit during His time on earth when the time comes for mankind's salvation. Meanwhile, this person must be kept safe, whole, secure, and pure. His followers may even think this person can perform miracles. Maybe they think that Jesus is slowly, over time, asserting himself in this person.

And in the meantime, the members of this sect of Christians are fanatically loyal, perhaps feel the need to purify humanity, and willing to do anything to further their beliefs, at any costs. The PCs could be in conflict with this sect, or maybe the sect hires them as bodyguards or part of a mercenary group. The PCs then come in conflict with some of the sect's practices and acts. What do they do then? It's a really good job, but they face a moral dilemma...

I apologize if my musings here are possibly sacrilegious to anyone here. It's just an adventure/encounter idea.

Davinci Code 2000? Twilight Davinci? T2KDC?

I personally think that apocalyptic cults would run rampant in T2K. Hundreds of millions, if not billions, of people's minds would run towards the "wrath of god" direction for an explanation of what happened.

I agree with the post-apoc cult concept. Lots of potential there.

Perhaps, with a bit of The Golden Child thrown in.

Funny, my first thought is the movie The Lion In Winter -- which then makes me think of The Wind And The Lion, which finally leads to Murphy Brown

One of Eddie Murphy's better flicks. "I just want some chips."

not to mention that they will be hungry for proteins -proteins that the non believers surely must give up to the righteous ? Even if it does mean giving all of themselves....
