Default OT: Another of the Great Generation Passes

My grandfather, who fought in the Navy in WW2, has reported to that final formation in the sky. I'll be out of the net for a few days for travel to the funeral, etc. With any luck, flying across the country with a 14 month-old will only be a little tougher than a tour in Baghdad. I'll be back at my post certanly within six or seven days.

We're losing an estimated one thousand World War 2 vets a day. They are vital piece of the world's history. I'm sorry your grandfather was one of them. My condolences for your loss.

Default Sorry to hear.

I lost two grandparents (the last ones) this year so I kind of know what you're going through.

Peace.

Don't think of it as an end or something to be sad. He is no longer with us, which is sad for sure. But now he is at peace, and at his best and at what to him is his Fiddlers Green, no more sickness, or dwindling with age.

Gentlemen,

Thank you all for your kind thoughts. I like the idea that he has gone to a realm with no sickness, no weakness, no ill health. All fighting men deserve a hereafter marked by the vitality of their fighting days and the peace of an idyllic childhood.

Web,

Here is a question.

What did your grandfather do in the navy?

A year ago a cousin recently died. It turns out he was a PBY pilot in the South Pacific. He was dwindling with age and emphasima from a life of smoking. But the few stories he related to us were pretty cool. He certainly led an interesting life. Would you care to share any of his experiences? Remember, as long as a person is remembered they never truly die.

Sorry to hear about your loss, I'm sure they saved him a seat in Valhalla for his service.
