Displacement of 4,720 tons. Speed of 35kts. Crew of 340. Armament consists of one single Standard MR/Harpoon launcher, two single 5in/54 Kk42, one eight-cell ASROC ASW launcher, two triple 324mm ASW torpedo tubes. Extensively modernized and expected to see service through 2002-2003.

3 Hamburg-class (Type 101B) Destroyers

Displacement of 4,700 tons. Speed of 35kts. Crew of 268. Armament consists of four single MM38 Exocet SSM launchers, three single 100,mm M1953 guns, four twin 40mm Bofors AA guns, two twin 533mm torpedo tubes, two six-cell 375mm Bofors ASW Mortars, two depth charge racks, 60-80 mines. Further modernizations have been cancealed. Slatted to be replaced by the new construction Type 123-class frigates.. Sister Hessen (D 184) was stricken in 1990 due to material defects.

Modified Type 122 “figs”, built with steel superstructures and extensive signature reduction measures. Slatted to be in service in the 1995-96 time frame, replacing the Hamburg-class destroyers.

Armament consists of two quad Harpoon SSM launchers, one eight-cell NATO Sea Sparrow SAM launcher, one single 76mm OTO Melara gun, four single 324mm ASW torpedo tubes, 2 Lynx helos. A “Germanized” version of the Dutch Kortenaer-class. Scheduled to start a modernization in the 1992-97 time frame, will add two RAM point defense SAM launchers as well as measures to reduce their radar signature. At various times, has been fitted with one Goalkeeper CIWS (3-4 on loan from the Dutch Navy).

Displacement of 648 tons. Speed of 23.5kts. Crew of 48. Armament consists of one twin 40mm Bofors AA Guns, one six-cell 375mm Bofors ASW mortar, four single 324mm ASW torpedo tubes, 2 depth charge racks and can carry up to 30 mines. Last of a class of six. In the process of being decommissioned and transferred to the Greek Navy.

Displacement of 96.5 tons. Speed of 9.4kts. Crew of 3 (transit only). Unamred. Essentially remote-controlled, self-propelled magnetic minesweepers that can also tow two sets of mechanical minesweeping gear. Normally operates in sets of three attached to a Type 351-class control ship.

A question - how much of the East German navy do you think came over to the West German navy when the East Germans joined up with them after the start of war?

Are you using the classic timeline for your navies or the V2.2 version of the timeline

Following the unification, the Volksmarine (East German navy) had surprisingly short service lives in the new German Navy. Dates for their disposal are: Knoi-class frigates Rostock (1991), Halle (1991), Berlin der Haupstadt der DDR (1991). The sixteen Parchim-class Corvettes were discardred in 1991-
92. The five Tarantul I-class guided missile boats were all stricken in 1991. The nine Sassnitz-class patrol boats have been decommissioned from the Navy and waiting on the decision to scrap, although there is a proposal
(1993) to turn four over to the Sea Border Patrol.

The story is the same for the Kondor II-class minesweepers and Frosch-class landing ships, by 1991, they have all been decommissioned or sold to other countries.

So a question then - are your naval dispositions reflecting the V2.2 timeline of a reunified Germany or the original timeline where the Germans only reunified after the war began and thus the East Germany navy ships would have still be in service since the two Germanies never reunified prior to that

Thanks for the info - by the way love the naval posts you have been making - navies were ignored in many ways in the game, with throw away timeline posts like the last fleet was shattered kind of thing but no real details (for instance leaving out the one appendix in Going Home that actually detailed the ships in the Omega fleet so we have no idea how many escorts it had) or totally unrealistic fights like the one described in Satellite Down.
