Doodads and add-ons
My son's teenage friend wants to run his own post-apoc game, using T2k rules. He & I debated which version for a while, he's settled on 1st ed. He and his players are heavily influenced by the computer 1st-person-shooter games that they have played.
Those games have lots of things that you can add to weapons on rails: lights, sights, etc. He noticed that there weren't any of these things in the equipment list or the Small Arms Guide, he was rather shocked when I told him that those hadn't been invented when the game came out; they're all new in his lifetime. (Thanks, do I feel old, or what?) Anyone have suggestions for in-game stats for ACOG sights, laser-dot sights, and the like?

You mean there is not the equivalent on Paul's site? I know he has vision devices in his equipment section.
As far as when some of the modern firearms accessories were invented some of them are rather old it's just that most of them were not really practical until recently. The original Aimpoint was used in the Song trey raid. Tactical Flashlights were used by the SAS for the Iranian Embasy siege. Said flashlights were the size of the big billy club sized maglights and were mounted like scopes. Firearms Lasers date back to the first Terminator film. What is not shown in the film is the power cord slipped into Arnie's coat leading to a battery the size and weight of a triple M16 magpouch. Such thing did exist it's just that they were not practical. |

I'd say treat the ACOG like any other 4x scope, and the sight tower on top of it that allows for better aimed CQB shots should modify dice rolls.
Same goes for non-magnifying reflexive sights regarding the modifiers to the rolls. Military/LEO reflexive laser or holographic sights typically run the gamut of 2MOA size dots or reticles that have adjustable brightness. Civilian or "commercial" sights are 4MOA. Example being the Aimpoint Comp M2 being 4MOA, and Comp M4 and Comp M4S(slight variant of AA battery housing placement on the device) being 2MOA. |

I'm going from memory here so could be wrong, but I think I saw a suggestion somewhere (might have been in the 2013 rules) to reduce recoil if a weapon was fitted with a vertical grip

Ooops, I should have mentioned I looked at Paul M's site, which is in 2nd ed. I wondered if anyone had something equivalent in 1st ed. rules? I could make conversions, I think.

According to www.imfdb.org, the first tv use of a "laser-lock" sight was in an episode of "The Professionals", a British TV series which ran from 1977-81. One episode used a tricked-up AR10 as the A180, an experimental laser-sighted .22" rifle.
